USD 100 Million Sewage Treatment Plant In Ho Chi Minh City

  • 22/02/2021
  • Landfilling is the most popular solid waste treatment method in the world as well as in Vietnam. This method is the lowest cost solution compared to other treatment methods such as incineration, solidification ... Therefore, it is still the solution widely used in the present and many years to come. However, the burial method presents a lot of secondary pollution problems, especially in the case of leachate. Leachate with the characteristics of the concentration of pollution changing according to the season (rainy season and dry season), extremely high organic pollution content ... has been studied and given many different treatment measures. The old methods use the following methods: biological (anaerobic, anaerobic, aerobic ...), chemical-physical (flocculation flocculation, advanced oxidation ...), natural treatments (bio-lakes All have problems: cost, area used, amount of chemicals consumed, difficult to control the process ...

Another research direction developed is the treatment of leachate by filtration processes, namely reverse-osmosis (RO).

Principle of the reverse osmosis process

However, traditional RO membranes face very big problems with membrane clogging when used on input water with high concentrations of pollution. In 1988, a new type of RO membrane system called Disc Tube RO (Disc Tube RO Membrane Module System) was successfully applied to treat leachate in Ihlenberg, Germany. DTRO system has the following advantages:

    • Configure open channels
    • Withstands high pollution level of the supply current
    • There is no need for complex pretreatment options
    • Reduces the risk of fouling or precipitation on membranes
    • Evenly distributed and self-cleaning hydraulic circulation
    • Easy to install, requires small installation area
    • Easy maintenance and membrane replacement as needed

Based on the outstanding advantages of DTRO, the research, installation and use of these membrane modules are conducted in many parts of the world. In the town of Yachiyo, Japan, a DTRO system with a capacity of 70m³ / day has been installed and put into use since April 1999. At the Chang Sinh Kieu landfill, Chongqing, China, a DTRO system with The capacity of 500m³ / day has been installed since 2002 and the result of wastewater treatment is very good. CODcr decreased from 12,400 mg / L to less than 50 mg / L; NH3-N decreased from 302-4,530 mg / L to less than 15; conductivity decreased from 19,070 µS / cm to below 70; TOC and SS were not detected. Recovery rate reaches 80%.
